Description
WHY THIS SUBJECT? It was inspired by a piece on campus titled, "Stop Telling Women to Smile." I remember seeing it the day I moved to Chicago and I instantly fell in love with it. I'm all about empowering women, and this piece does just that.
WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW ABOUT THE WORK? It went about 100000 different directions This was not my original idea I had in mind when I started. As I began painting and sketching, I decided to just scratch all original ideas I had and to just follow what I felt in the moment.
WHAT WAS YOUR PROCESS? I knew I wanted to stay true to the original artist's theme of picturing women not smiling, but I wanted to do it in my own unique style. I painted the figures first, and then I decided to layer a ton of shapes and to give it texture, and then of course the words.
