The sketch of the first and second movements dates from 1977. The third movement and the refashioning of the entire piece for strings and harp was completed in 1981. It was first recorded in 1984 by a string quintet with harp and the orchestral premiere took place in 1994 by the Metropolis Symphony Orchestra, where Doug Lofstrom was then composer-in-residence. The work is in three movements for string orchestra with harp or quartet with bass and harp.
The accompanying audio recording is performed by the Russian String Orchestra in 2021, conducted by Misha Rachlevsky, Score is 27 pages and recording is 13:20 minutes.
