WHY THIS SUBJECT? I am exhausted by having to constantly advocate for my right to exist as a human being who does not deserve to be harmed and watching women be killed and assaulted, while the perpetrators of this violence live unbothered.
WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW ABOUT THE WORK? The focus of my poster for this project is to flip the label of women’s movement on its head, as it is not women’s responsibility to combat the violence they fall victim to. It is impossible to make progress in any “woman’s movement” without holding men accountable for their part in the misogyny and sexism that continues to burden those identifying as women in our society. Due to the lack of standards and expectations for men to be held to, many are satisfied with taking a passive stance of, "Well I'm not violent toward women, so I am not the problem and, therefore, am creating the solution", which is simply an illogical fallacy. Rather than taking an active part in the movement counteracting what they as a male hegemony have caused, their refusal to work toward a solution only worsens the problem.
