Description
WHY THIS SUBJECT? As a lesbian artist, I believe it is my responsibility to use my voice not only to stand up for the LGBTQ+ community but also to advocate for other marginalized communities.
WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW ABOUT THE WORK? Combining my identity as a lesbian and the responsibility that I feel to stand up for others outside of my own communities, I created my poster based on the topic of lesbians as intersectional advocates. I used an overlapping sticker design to highlight a multitude of issues that I feel passionate about. After looking at my poster, I hope you feel inspired and energized to get out there and be the best intersectional advocate you can be!
WHAT WAS YOUR PROCESS? First, I created a mood board with images to inspire my poster. I then created a digital sketch so that I could refine my layout. Next, I used India ink on thick watercolor paper for the background, and I sketched my design on top with pencil. Then I went through and used acrylic paint for the main color of each sticker. Finally, I used paint markers and art pens for the lettering and details. Additionally, I added some glitter to the diamond embellishments.
