These guidelines explain the methodology of the Columbia College Chicago Oral History Model, in practice at the college for more than a decade. Developed by oral historian Erin McCarthy as a method by which students can more easily identify key themes and subjects across a set of oral histories, the use of 'core questions' is key to the model. These questions, asked to each narrator participating in an oral history project, offers the ability to compare and identify themes through application of content analysis tools built into the model.
