Center for Black Music Research (CBMR) holds collections that highlight the role of black music in world culture with materials originating or representing black music in the United States, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean in a variety of formats: personal papers, scores, sheet music, audio-visual materials, photographs, books, periodicals, and commercial recordings.

Established in 1983 at Columbia College Chicago, the CBMR documents and informs about the history and current expressions of black music.

Material in this section is from the special collections held in the Center. There are also newsletters generated by the CBMR for further insight: Black Music Research Newsletter and the CBMR Digest.
