Center for Black Music Research
Center for Black Music Research (CBMR) holds collections that highlight the role of black music in world culture with materials originating or representing black music in the United States, sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Established in 1983 at Columbia College Chicago, the CBMR documents and informs about the history and current expressions of black music.
Material in this section is from the special collections held in the Center and its newsletter generated by the CBMR for further insight: Black Music Research Newsletter. The Cariso! newsletter of the Alton Augustus Adams Music Research Institute (AMRI) offers information about the former CBMR Caribbean institute in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
These collections are located in the Center for Black Music Research at Columbia College Chicago; please make an appointment or contact us with any questions.
