Chicago Anti-Apartheid Movement

These oral histories were conducted with donors to the Chicago Anti-Apartheid Movement Collections whose interviews chronicle the work of Chicago activists engaged in the struggle against apartheid in Southern Africa.

Original audio interviews were conducted by Columbia College Chicago undergraduate students during the Spring 2009, Fall 2009, and Spring 2010 semesters for the course, Oral History: The Art of the Interview taught by Dr. Erin McCarthy. The 2023 video oral histories with Dr. Lisa Brock, Dr. Cheryl Johnson-Odim, and Otis Cunningham, were made possible through a Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) grant conducted by, Lilah Hernandez, an undergraduate student, who re-interviewed the trio more than a decade after their initial interviews in 2009 & 2010. These video interviews discuss their life and activism since 2010 and their views on current social justice events.
