Hair Trigger is a student-edited literary magazine produced by Columbia College Chicago featuring work by Columbia students, staff, and alumni.
Published since 1977, the publication began in the Writing/English Department. In 1987, the Department of Fiction Writing was established as a separate program and in 2013, the department merged to create the Creative Writing Department. In 2016, the unit name changed to the English/Creative Writing Department. This department continues to publish the magazine and to date, forty volumes have been produced.
Hair Trigger, an annual magazine, has been described by the founding department chair, John Schultz, as "a lively exploration of strongly defined literary forms and senses of address, with prominent elements of imaginative parody of form, content, manner, and style."
In 2016, an online publication Hair Trigger 2.0 was established, as counterpart to the printed magazine. In addition to creative works, it also publishes interviews, book reviews, and features. More about this publication is found: Hair Trigger 2.0 website.
