The Humanities, History, and Social Sciences (HHSS) Department at Columbia College Chicago cultivates critical and creative thinking skills, so students can better develop oral and written abilities. With an emphasis on helping students to integrate their experiences and creativity with research and observation, the department encourages students to combine pragmatic mastery with abstract reasoning.

HHSS serves as an essential part of Columbia’s LAS Core Curriculum, offers four minors: Black World Studies; Cultural Studies; Latino and Latin American Studies; and Women's and Gender Studies, and a Bachelor degree in Cultural Studies.
